Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Longtime Alaskan Waldo Ray Reed, 68, died unexpectedly on Oct. 13, 2004. A celebration of life was held at Gospel Outreach in Wasilla on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 2:30 p.m.
He was born April 20, 1936, in Randolph County, Ind., and graduated from Roll High School in 1954.
He attended Taylor University in Upland, Ind., as well as several technical schools. He married Doris Spruill, his wife of 45 years, in Florida.
In 1959, the couple fulfilled his dream to homestead in Alaska, near Hatcher Pass. He served in the National Guard for nine years as well as the National Security Agency.
He retired from Alascom and GCI as a data engineer. He was a longtime member of the Worldwide Church
of God.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children and their families, Naomi Childers (Wayne) and four children, James Reed (Jodi) and child, Rhoda Woodworth (Glen) and four children and Mark Reed and his wife, Jerusha; two sisters, Iraida Leitch and Sondra Farr and brother, Vern Reed. His sisters, Bonnie Kay James and Mary Naomi Reed, preceded him in death.
