ANCHORAGE -- In a battle of Alaska basketball powers in the process of rebuilding, the Wasilla Warriors got the upper hand.
David Williams scored 14 points to lead Wasilla to a 48-45 win over Juneau in the final found of the Service Tip-Off in Anchorage Saturday.
Wasilla and Juneau were two of the top three teams in the 4A state tournament last season.
"Juneau is a lot like us," Wasilla head coach Jason Marvel said. "They are young and still trying to find their identity."
Williams was the lone Warrior to hit double digits in scoring. It marked just his third game in a Warrior uniform. Williams moved to Alaska from Texas prior to the beginning of the year.
On Friday Wasilla earned an exciting 59-54 double overtime victory over West Hills High School. Matt Crane scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Warriors over the California school. Forward Luke Schafer dominated the glass with 20 boards in the game.
Crane also had 17 points and nine rebounds in a loss to East on Thursday.
Hawk girls fly past Rams
Four Houston players scored in double digits as the Houston Hawks rolled past Susitna Valley 60-20 at Houston High on Saturday.
Nori Dixon scored a game-high 17 for Houston in the contest. Brandi Harvey tallied 14 points, Whitney Conn scored 13 and Cynthia Sieben added 11.
Mary Pilch and Anne Rauchenstein each posted six points to lead the Rams.
Hawk boys top Rams
Colton Conner scored 21 points to lead Houston past Su Valley 81-58 at Houston High on Saturday.
Jake Martinson added 15 points and Donovan Parker registered 12 points and nine rebounds for Houston.
Matt Clark led Su Valley with 16 points.
