The Wasilla Warriors girls' basketball squad is ranked third in the 4A hoops poll for the third consecutive week. Wasilla earned 21 votes in the poll voted in by local Alaska sportswriters and tabulated by the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
The Warriors are 6-2 this season and 1-0 in Region III play after a 61-48 win over Colony last week.
Colony received one vote in the 4A girls' poll. The 5-4 Knights would be ranked ninth.
The Palmer boys received votes for the first time this season. The 6-3 Moose earned two votes, placing them just outside the top-five. Kodiak received three votes despite being swept by Palmer at home last weekend.
With the wins over the Bears, the Moose improved to 3-0 in Region III play and took sole ownership of first place in the northern division.
Bartlett earned 39 total points and seven first-place votes to stay in first place. The two-time defending state champions have owned the top spot each week this season.
Despite dropping an overtime thriller to East on Tuesday, West earned 28 points and a first-place vote, placing them in second, four points ahead of East.
Chugiak remained atop the 4A girls' poll for the third straight week. The Mustangs earned six of eight first-places votes. Lathrop garnered two first-place votes and are second.
Valdez is at the top of both the 3A boys' and girls' poll.
