Warrior girls win to set up rematch of 2009-10 title game

ANCHORAGE — Alexis Imoe buried a pair of free throws and Kelsey Cottle blocked a late West Valley shot to help the Warriors edge the Wolfpack 50-48 during the second day of the Lady Lynx Prep Shootout at Dimond High School in Anchorage on Thursday.

Imoe hit 5-of-6 free throws and scored nine points, and Cottle posted a team-high 12 to help Wasilla score the win and stay undefeated. Wasilla will now play defending state champion Juneau-Douglas in rematch of the 2009-10 4A state title game tonight in the tourney’s gold bracket semifinals.

Jasmine Yarde scored a game-high 25 for the Wolfpack, who used a 17-13 second-quarter run to force a 24-24 halftime tie. Hannah Mattson added 14.

The Colony Knights also moved into the tourney’s gold bracket semifinals with a 48-33 win over North Pole. Sophomore Mary Klapperich hit a trio of three-pointers and scored a game-high 15 to help the Knights move into a semifinal date with host Dimond.

On Wednesday, Colony cruised into the winner’s bracket with a 61-17 win over Ketchikan.

The Knights used a 25-1 third-quarter run to grab the lopsided win over the Kings. Sophomore Mary Klapperich led the Knights with a game-high 19 points and six rebounds. Klapperich hit 8-of-12 shots from the field, and also collected three steals. Senior Kate Klapperich added 13 points and seven assists in the win.

Wasilla was about as dominant during its 69-22 victory over 3A Anchorage Christian. The Warriors jumped out to a 20-6 lead and used a 20-1 second-quarter run to take the 40-7 halftime lead.

Sophomore Alexis Imoe hit 8-of-10 free throws and scored a game-high 16. Kelsey Cottle (12 points), Alyssa Hutchins (11) and Celeste Colegrove (10) also hit double digits in scoring.
