Warrior top diver in Bartlett/Chugiak Invite

ANCHORAGE — Wasilla’s Mariah Schachle was the top athlete of the girls’ 1-meter dive during the Bartlett/Chugiak Invitational on Saturday.

Schachle finished with 330.85 total points to win the event, held at the Chugiak High School pool on Saturday. The Wasilla diver edged South Anchorage’s Katie Cartee by about two points.

Colony’s Connor Eschleman finished seventh in the boys’ 1-meter dive.

Schachle was one of a pair of Warriors to post top-2 finishes in the invitational, which featured nearly 600 athletes from 33 programs. Karina Barria darted through the water for a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Barria, who also finished fifth in the 100 butterfly, clocked a time of 25.17 seconds in the 50.

Brittany Schattuck also earned a top-20 finish for the Warriors, placing 16th in the 200 individual medley.

Kevin Snavley led the Wasilla boys team with an eighth-place finish in the 100 backstroke. Snavley was also 17th in the 100 butterfly.

Eschleman and Zane Mileiur both finished in the top 10 for the Colony Knights boys team. Mileiur was 10th in the 500 freestyle. He was also 12th in the 200 individual medley.

Kayla Anderson led the Colony girls with a pair of top-20 finishes, placing 13th in the 500 freestyle and 16th in the 100 backstroke.

Katie Stark placed in the top 20 twice for the Palmer girls, finishing 11th in the 500 freestyle and 19th in the 50 freestyle.

Eddie Shadow finished 15th for the Palmer boys in the 50 freestyle and 21st in the 100 freestyle.
