WASILLA — Another season, another Wasilla-Colony final in the Northern Lights Conference Championships girls bracket.
Both Valley schools used a big first quarter to score a semifinal win over their Peninsula opponent Friday at Kodiak High School.
Second-seeded Colony hit four of its nine three-pointers during a 20-point first of a 48-36 victory over Soldotna. The Knights led 20-6 after the first quarter. Amanda Smith led Colony with 16 points in the win. Smith hit four threes. Kali Bull added a trio of threes, and chipped in 12. Alex Carlton finished with 11.
Amanda Schmidt led Soldotna with a dozen points.
Wasilla also got of to a quick start during its 54-16 win over Kenai. The defending NLC and state champions held Kenai to just a Lara Creighton bucket in the first quarter. The Warriors led 34-9 at halftime, and allowed only seven second-half points.
Olivia Davies scored a game-high 16 for Wasilla. McKenna Dinkel and Cheyenne Green added eight each.
The Warriors and Knights will meet in the title game Saturday at 6:15 p.m. at Kodiak High. Kenai and Soldotna will play for third at 2:45 p.m.
