Warriors at top

The Wasilla Warriors received 47 total votes to remain at the top of the 4A girls class in the latest Alaska Sportswriters Basketball Poll.

Wasilla improved its overall record to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in Region III play with a pair of road victories last weekend. The Warriors slipped past Homer 59-57 in overtime and walloped Skyview 92-37.

The Warriors moved to 16-2 with a 73-37 win at Bartlett on Wednesday.

Wasilla has four regular season games remaining. The squad will host Kodiak for a two-game set this weekend and play Valley foes Palmer and Colony next weekend.

The Warriors received seven first place votes this week, while Lathrop snagged the remaining three.

Colony received six total votes in the girls' 4A poll. The Knights are 14-6 after a loss at East and a home win over Palmer on Tuesday.

Palmer garnered 13 total votes to stay fifth in the boys 4A poll. The Moose are now 15-5 overall and 7-0 in Region III play after a win over Colony on Tuesday. Palmer split a pair of non-conference games last weekend. Palmer stomped Service and were edged by the second-ranked East Thunderbirds.
