Warriors crown 2 at Bob Bailey

CHUGIAK — Wasilla crowned a pair of champions and placed six wrestlers in the finals of the Bob Bailey Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at Chugiak High School.

Hayden Seltenreich recorded a dominating 15-0 technical fall over Zane Fejes of South Anchorage at 170 pounds, followed by teammate Mike Dobbs’ 2 minute, 39 second pin of Cordova’s Cody Howard at 182 to pace the Warriors.

Along with the pair of Bob Bailey champs, Wasilla placed four others in the finals, including Shannon Carpenter in the 132-pound championship match, Nate McKimson at 145, Bryce Serna at 152 and Billy Schultz at 195.

In the consolation bracket, the Warriors also scored with a handful of wrestlers battling into their respective third-place matches.

Brandon Abbott pinned Tasha Mockta of Service in 4:01 at 113 pounds to place third, followed by a 6-0 decision from teammate Ryker Steiner over Chugiak’s Chase Jury at 132. At 195 pounds, Zech Rockstad dominated Nicholas Cruz of Service 11-1 in the only consolation bracket match to advance to third place.

The Warriors were well-represented in the sparse 195-pound bracket, fielding two of four wrestlers. In addition to Rockstad, Billy Schultz advanced to the finals before being pinned by Mason Kimber of Cordova.
