With a region title on the line, a matchup between a pair of crosstown rivals wasn’t decided until the final pitch.
Will Plowman drove a ball into left field to score George McSorely during the bottom of the seventh lift the Wasilla Warriors to a 7-6 win over Colony during the Railbelt Conference baseball championships Friday afternoon at Wasilla High School.
The play capped a late rally for the Warriors, who trailed 6-5 midway through the sixth. Plowman scored on a Jace Crall single in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at 6.
The Knights took their first lead of the day with a three-run fifth. Brayden Parrent had a two-run single and Nate Wilson added a double for the Knights.
Plowman was 4 for 5 to lead Wasilla, and added two runs and two RBI. Pedro Camacho was 3 for 4, with two RBI and a run.
Six different Warriors scored at least one run.
Parent led Colony with four RBI. Colton Hasse and Bryant Marks had two hits and a run each for the Knights.
Both Wasilla and Colony advanced to the Division I state tournament. Wasilla plays Chugiak Thursday at 4 p.m. in the first round. Colony meets Service Thursday at 1 p.m. All games are at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
