A pair of Valley rivals capped off a girls basketball tournament with a thriller in Anchorage Feb. 5.
Wasilla edged Colony 61-57 in double-overtime during the championship game of the Dimond Lady Lynx Tournament at Dimond High School.
The Warriors trailed after each of the first three quarters, but forced overtime with a 17-13 fourth-quarter run. Wasilla outscored the Knights 4-0 in the second overtime.
Layla Hays and Bella Hays both finished with double-doubles for wasilla. Layla hadc23 points and 11 rebounds. Bella finished with 13 points and 10 boards. Kaci Cox added a dozen points.
Kaylee Wilkes led Colony with 19 points. Ally Shelley finished with 14, and Hallie Clark added 12.
Wasilla beat Service 59-7 in the quarterfinals and Dimond 65-35 in the semis. Colony started with a 67-46 victory over West Valley and edged Ketchikan 42-40 in the semifinals.
Palmer was also in the tournament and finished fourth with a win over West Valley. The Moose opened with a 68-60 loss to host Dimond, but rebounded with a 60-20 win over Service.
