Warriors extend winning streak

FAIRBANKS — The Wasilla Road Warriors extended their winning streak and tightened the gap at the top of the Alaska American Legion American Division in the process.

Wasilla roughed up Kenai 12-2 Monday afternoon to improve to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in league play. The Road Warriors now stand nearly neck-and-neck with Dimond (16-8, 11-4) at the top of the division standings.

Matt Palmer collected three hits and three runs in the Road Warriors win. Mitchell Chauvin also scored three runs, and Dalton McHugill had two RBIs.

Sam Loyer and Josh Boyer both pitched for Wasilla. Loyer allowed to earned runs and fanned three en route to earning the win. Boyer struck out five batters.

Sunday, Wasilla used an 11-0 shutout of Fairbanks Post 11 to sweep a three-game road trip in the Interior. The Road Warriors beat Fairbanks Post 30 twice on Saturday.

Chauvin pitched a complete game for the Road Warriors Sunday. He scattered four hits over five innings, and also needed only 63 total pitches.

Ben Ross led the Warriors at the plate, finishing 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Loyer added a hit and a run, and drove in two. Chauvin helped his own cause with two runs scored.

Wasilla will play its final home games of the season Tuesday at McManus Field in Palmer. The Warriors host Juneau at 10 a.m. and West Anchorage at 6:30 p.m.

The Juneau contest is a makeup game. The scheduled contest was rained out on June 26.

Pioneers fall in Interior

FAIRBANKS — The Palmer Pioneers suffered three losses in Fairbanks over the weekend.

Fairbanks Post 30 beat Palmer 11-1 on Sunday. Fairbanks Post 11 swept Palmer in a doubleheader Saturday, winning 4-3 and 10-0.

Palmer continues play against Juneau Tuesday at 1 p.m. at McManus Field, a makeup of a game originally scheduled for June 25.

The Pioneers host Fairbanks Post 30 Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Palmer.
