The Wasilla Warriors started the 2024 prep wrestling season with a runner-up finish in the team standings during the Houston Altercation tournament in Houston.
The Warriors finished with 246 points in the team standings. Brigg Pettijohn (112 pounds) and Thailyn Reynolds (140) each won their weight class for the Warriors. Rogello Alvarez (112), Achilles Alexander (130), James Lackey (215) and Kamryn Woodfork (285) placed second.
Colony was fourth in the team standings with 176 points. Gabriel Crockett (103), Tristen Mayer (160) and Luke Roderick (189) finished second.
Redington (135) and Palmer (129.5) were fifth and sixth in the team standings. Kaelan Vesel was first at 215 for Palmer, and Carson Mastberg placed second at 145.
Colony crowned four champions in the girls tournament. Grace Loutzenhiser (100), Heidi Francis (107) and Noelle Buck (235) finished first for the Knights, and Hayden VanderPool (114) was second.
Wasilla and Redington both had two champions.
Taryn Wright (132) and Brynlee Lutz (138) won their weight class for the Warriors, and Taylor Cooley (100), Claire Cone-Clark (138) and Malaiha Mitchell (185) placed second.
Joy Walker (165) and Nikayla Miller (185) placed first for Redington, and Josephine Granger (145) was second.
Houston’s Sophia Dickson (120) and Kimberly Tischner (235), and Palmer’s Kaylee Paulson (165) finished second.
