Warriors finish second

FAIRBANKS -- The host Wolfpack edged the Wasilla Warriors in the annual West Valley Invitational wrestling tournament in Fairbanks last week.

West Valley earned 208 points in the tourney, while Wasilla gained 195 points.

The Warriors led in the team standings after the first day of competition, but the Wolfpack's success in the championship rounded vaulted West Valley past Wasilla.

West Valley sent seven wrestlers to the final round and each of the seven grapplers won a gold medal. Wasilla placed four wrestlers in the championships, but two were in the same weight class.

Jed Wade scored a 3-2 decision over Juneau Douglas' Robert Vicario to win the 189-pound class and remain undefeated in Alaska.

Abe Salmon registered a forfeit victory over fellow Warrior Cory Crane in the 160-pound class.

Juneau's Cory Wolf edged Wasilla's Bo Kittley 5-3 in the 103-pound finals.

Dustin Killian was Colony's lone representative in the final round. Killian suffered a 3-0 defeat to Skyview's Eli Hutchison in the 112-pound final.

Palmer advanced a pair of wrestlers to the consolation finals. Stewart defeated Juneau's David Lillidahl to take third in the 140-pound class. Trevor Pempek placed fourth in the 145-pound class.
