ANCHORAGE — The Wasilla Warriors hit the track for the first time this season, competing in The Mini track and field meet at The Dome in Anchorage Friday and Saturday.
The defending state champion Wasilla Warrior girls finished first in the team standings on Saturday and second on Friday. Three-time state champion Morgan Dampier paced the Warriors with a trio of wins. The senior finished first in the 100-, 800- and 1,600-meter races. Dampier used a time of 12.87 seconds to win the 100 and edge former teammate and current Service runner Dejanae Harris. Dampier found victory in the 800 with a time of 2:18.04. She also won the 1,600 with a mark of 5:12:38.
Wasilla senior Jessica Pahkala, a UAA recruit, finished second in the 800 and 1,600. Warriors freshman Peggy Mathis was third in the 1,600.
Senior Devon Teeling led the Wasilla boys with a win in the discus, topping the 137-foot mark.
