Warriors hold on, earn baseball win over Moose

WASILLA — Pitching in his final high school baseball game at Wasilla High School, senior Austin Robertson tossed a gem, taking a no-hitter into the final inning.

And then Palmer tried to steal a win on Wasilla’s senior night.

The Moose scored three runs in the seventh, but Wasilla held on for a 5-3 Southcentral Conference victory over Palmer Monday night at Wasilla High.

Robertson worked 6 2/3 innings, and didn’t allow a Palmer hit until a Brady Shults single with one out in the top of the seventh. In the outing, Robertson threw 116 pitches, 73 for strikes, fanned eight and walked four.

Shults sparked Palmer’s late attempt at the rally with the single and scored on a Skyler Hale double to put the Moose on the board. Owen Hayes followed with a run-scoring single. Later in the inning, Cade Holland scored on a passed ball.

Reliever Jacob Gilbert was able to end the game with a ground out.
