WASILLA — Wasilla High’s inaugural Buddy Dale Invitational features a half-dozen teams from the Southcentral Conference, and pair of Valley squads notched victories that come with an added bonus.
Wasilla and Colony both beat Kodiak during the four-day tournament that started Wednesday at Wasilla High. Both wins count in the Southcentral Conference standings.
Friday, Jacob Gilbert used a solid night on the mound and at the plate to lead Wasilla to a 10-0 win over Kodiak. Colony blasted the Bears 14-6 the day before.
Gilbert pitched a five-inning complete game shutout, allowing only a pair of hits, in the win. At the plate, Gilbert finished with a pair of hits, drove in three runs and scored a run. Clayton Boyett finished with a team-best four RBI for Wasilla. Nolan Murphy finished with two RBI and Waylon Payne also drove in a run. Payne, AJ Camacho and Max Wanser added two runs each.
Carson McLaughlin led Colony to the 14-6 win over Kodiak with three hits, two runs and four RBI. Kaden Ketchum was 3 of 4 at the plate, with three RBi and a run scored. McLaughlin was also one of five Knights to score two runs each.
Trace Severson earned the win on the mound, scattering five hits and five earned runs over 5 1/3 innings.
Colony followed with a 26-4 win over Redington on Friday. Ben Alley was 4 for 4 with four runs scored. Severson finished 4 of 5, with four runs and five RBI. Zach Satterly also scored four times. Alexander Manning added three hits and three runs.
Palmer built an early lead and beat Soldotna 7-5 during tourney play on Thursday. Landon Guggenmos fanned a dozen SoHi hitters. Brady Shults led the Moose with three RBI. Kaj Taylor drove in two runs.
