WASILLA — Last season, Wasilla and Colony finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 4A state volleyball tournament. Things didn’t go quite as well for the Valley schools this year.
Both programs finished 0-2 during the ASAA/First National Bank State Volleyball Championships at West Anchorage High School.
Southeast Conference champion Juneau-Douglas eliminated Wasilla with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 18-25, 25-7) win Friday morning. Mid-Alaska Conference champion eliminated Colony 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20).
Aleks Kvalheim led Wasilla with a dozen kills during the loss to the Crimson Bears. Emily Cizek added 29 digs. Kaitlyn Cook collected 37 assists and 13 digs.
Both Valley teams were swept out of the first round Thursday.
Cook Inlet Conference champion Dimond started the day with a hard-fought 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 26-24) win over Wasilla, the No. 3 seed from the Northern Lights Conference.
Cizek led Wasilla with 22 digs in the loss. Delaney Breshears added 11 digs. Cheyenne Green finished with seven kills and nine digs.
Later in the day, defending state champion Dimond beat NLC champion Colony 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-15).
