Warriors, Knights earn big soccer wins in Fairbanks

The Wasilla and Colony girls soccer squads helped solidify their spots in the top tier of the Railbelt Conference standings with a big weekend in Fairbanks.

Wasilla improved to 4-1 in conference play with wins over Lathrop and West Valley. Lainey Kroon scored the game-winner during the final minutes to lift the Warriors to a 2-1 victory over Lathrop on Thursday. Mylee Anderson opened the scoring for Wasilla. Kroon and Holly Marsh finished with an assist each. Wasilla also beat West Valley 2-1 on Friday. Morgan Mahoney scored both goals for Wasilla, and Kroon had two assists.

The Warriors also scored a 6-0 nonconference win over North Pole. Marsh, Kroon, Mahoney, Molly O’Neill, Jordan Sande and Makenna Hanson scored for the Warriors.

Colony improved to 5-2 with girls wins over Lathrop and West Valley. Avrie Geigerich used a hat trick to lead the Knights to a 5-0 win over Lathrop. Asha Gerteisen and Sammy Gerteisen also scored. Geigerich finished with a goal and two assists in a 3-0 win over West Valley. Asha Gerteisen added a goal and an assist. Allesandra Albertson also scored. Addison Stewart earned the shutout for the Knights in each win.

The Colony boys also finished 2-0 in Fairbanks, and are now 4-1-2 in the conference. Johnny Figgins scored twice during a 3-0 victory over Lathrop. Isaac Villa also scored. The Knights followed with a 3-1 win over West Valley. Owen Dietz converted a penalty kick. Villa and Finn Hoffman also scored.

Palmer swept a pair of matches Thursday at Houston High. Elijah VonGunten netted a hat trick to lead the Moose boys to a 4-0 win. Kaleb VonGunten also scored. The PHS girls beat the Hawks 4-1. Lila Pettit, Isabel Rennie, Grace Muilenburg and Jada Becker-Santana scored.
