The Wasilla Warriors scored a pair of top-2 finishes in tournaments during the second weekend of the prep wrestling season.
The Warriors crowned six champions en route to the team title at the Throw Down at Snow Town in Valdez. Redington finished third in the Valdez meet.
Wasilla finished as the runner-up to rival Colony at the West Classic. The Knights finished with 141 total points to win the West tourney. Wasilla was second with 114.
TJ Clapp (112 pounds), Jared Hopkins (125), Kayden Payne (130), Vincent Cramer (135), Levi Hopkins (171) and Ricky Westover (215) won their weight classes for the Kngihts. Alex Logsdon (119), Spencer Uhlenhake (145) and Rowdy Bailey (160) finished first for the Warriors.
Moose 4th at Lathrop
Palmer finished fourth overall during the Battle of the Interior duals tournament in Lathrop.
The Moose were 3-3 in six duals. Palmer beat North Pole ·(40-25), West Valley (55-24) and the Lathrop B team (56-18). Palmer suffered dual losses to South (53-18), Lathrop (60-9) and Bethel (45-29).
Senior Levi Farris led the Moose, finishing 5-1 in six matches. Farris, a state champion in 2016 and state runner-up last year, wrestled a pair of defending state champions during the tournament. At 189 pounds, Farris scored a 5-3 sudden victory win over Lathrop’s Andrue Shepersky, who won a state championship with Wasilla last year.
North Pole’s Bradley Antesberger, a state champ at 195 last year, edged Farris 6-4.
