The local prep soccer season is now underway.
The Wasilla Warriors swept a pair of varsity matches against Grace Christian, and Colony scored a pair of shutouts on its home turf.
Lainey Kroon and Morgan Mahoney had two goals each to lead Wasilla to an 11-0 girls victory over the Grizzlies at The Dome in Anchorage. Jordan Sande, Gracie Weisz, Makenna Hanson, Mylee Anderson, Mickenzy Lofland, Holly Marsh and Molly O’Neill also scored for the Warriors. Violet Schachle led Wasilla with three assists. Larkynn Miner earned the shutout in the Wasilla net.
The Warriors boys grabbed a 4-1 win over Grace.
Wasilla scored four unanswered goals in the win. Freshman center midfielder Ashton Bair tied the game with a shot beyond the 18-yard line. Sophomore Zane Kroon gave Wasilla the lead with a goal set up by Stephen Hastings. Talyn Hanson pushed Wasilla’s advantage to 3-1, with the help from an assist by Kolby Shumway. Hastings scored Wasilla’s final goal. Kroon recorded the assist.
The Colony boys blanked Eagle River 9-0. Senior Johnny Figgins scored five times in the win. He netted a hat trick within the first eight minutes of the match. Eli Ingle, Isaac Villa and Race Jansen also had goals. Max Weinraub recorded a penalty kick.
The Colony girls beat the Wolves 5-0. Avrie Geigerich notched a hat trick. Charlie McManus and Asha Gerteisen also scored. Gerteisen added two assists.
