Warriors, Moose and Knights all pin wins in tournaments

CHUGIAK — The Wasilla Warriors picked up right where they left off.

Defending 4A state champion Wasilla crowned three individual champions en route to winning the team title of the Bob Bailey Invitational at Chugiak High School on Saturday.

Ryker Steiner, Nate McKimson and Tyler Adams each won their weight classes to lead the Warriors.

Steiner pinned Lathrop’s Dan Holtry in the first period of the final round to win at 126 pounds. McKimson edged teammate Bryce Serna 6-4 to score the title at 138.

Adams, a defending state champion, beat Bartlett’s Talon Sturgill 7-6 to win the 145-pound title.

Houston’s Luke Wagner also won an individual championship in the tourney, winning at 220.

Moose win Top of the World Classic

BARROW — Led by four individual champions, the Palmer Moose won the Top of the World Classic in Barrow on Saturday.

Palmer moved eight wrestlers into the finals to win the tournament and finish ahead of second-place Bethel and third-place North Pole. Eleven Moose grapplers placed in the top 3.

Mason Cochran (106 pounds), Baile Clifford (113), Hunter Molesky (138) and Joel Ryno (220) each finished first for the Moose. Aaron Molesky (126), Nathan Pempek (132), Collin Bendixen (138) and Luke Heun (145) advanced to the finals and finished second.

Justin Gentz (120), Daniel Medina (145) and AJ Gentz (152) each finished third for the Moose.

Palmer finished 3-0 in duals on Friday. The toughest win came in a 29-23 victory over Bethel. Palmer only lost one match in a dual win over host Barrow and two matches in a dual victory over Seward.

Knights win Peninsula Duals

NIKISKI — The Colony Knights used a 38-33 win over small schools power Dillingham during the final round to win the Peninsula Duals at Nikiski High on Saturday.

Colony scored three wins by pin and two more by major decision during the win over Dillingham. Colony also beat Kodiak 37-32 in the semifinals and Soldotna 58-13 in the quarterfinals.
