Warriors, Moose, grab prep soccer wins

WASILLA — The Wasilla Warriors swept a trio of nonconference girls soccer games against teams from the Kenai Peninsula over the weekend.

Wasilla scored wins over Kenai Central, Homer and Soldotna, all former foes in the old Northern Lights Conference. Alexis Friesen scored twice to lead Wasilla to a 3-1 win over Kenai May 2. Nicole Catlett added a goal and an assist. Abby Crawford and Darcy Matson added an assist each. Friesen notched two goals and an assist the following day, during a 4-1 win over Homer. Reese Sande collected a goal and three assists. Matson added a goal.

Wasilla capped its weekend with a 1-0 win over SoHi. Sierra Baird scored during the 60th minute to provide the lone goal of the match.

In boys’ action, Homer edged Wasilla 1-0 and Soldotna beat the Warriors 2-1.

Moose sweep Redington

Palmer scored a pair of wins over Redington Tuesday night in Wasilla.

Three players recorded their first varsity goals to help lead the Moose to a 6-1 girls win over the Huskies. Jenna Whisenhunt, Aila Berrigan and Avery Hill each found the back of the net for the first time in a varsity match. Whisenhunt and Hill are both freshmen. Berrigan is a sophomore. Catherine Uschmann, Delaney Shults and Ilse Spiropoulis also scored.

The Palmer boys followed with a 5-2 win over the Huskies. Isaiah Montoya scored his eighth goal of the season to lead the Moose. Ben McLin and Hayden Hartman added a goal and an assist each.

The Moose also hosted Homer, Soldotna and Kenai in nonconference action.

Homer handed the Palmer girls their first loss of the year May 2, scoring a 4-2 win over the Moose. Whisenhunt and Uschmann scored for Palmer. Uschmann also scored Palmer’s lone goal in a 6-1 loss to Soldotna May 3. Palmer and Kenai played to a scoreless tie May 4.

Soldotna beat Palmer 5-1 in boys action, and Kenai beat the Palmer boys 2-0.
