PALMER - The Wasilla Warriors are one win away from a trip to the ASAA 4A state championship volleyball tournament.
The Warriors moved into the consolation final of the Northern Lights Conference Volleyball Championships with a 3-1 win over Homer, Saturday morning at Palmer High School.
Wasilla won the first two games of the best-of-five match, but Homer - led by senior middle blocker Reba Temple - captured the third game 25-19. In the fourth game Wasilla senior middle hitter Alana Wright posted five kills, two blocks and a service ace to lead the Warriors to a 25-20 match-deciding win.
The Warriors now face Kodiak at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Palmer High in the third-place. The winner gets a bid to the state tourney.
Kodiak advanced by edging Soldotna 3-2 (19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 29-25, 16-14).
On Friday, Palmer edged Wasilla 3-2 (25-27, 17-25, 25-19, 25-20, 16-14) to advance to NLC championship. Palmer will face Valley rival Colony. The Knights topped Kodiak 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 25-27, 25-17) in the other semifinal. The championship match is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
In consolation action, Homer swept Kenai 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-20) and Soldotna edged Skyview 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 15-13).
