ANCHORAGE — During the three-day Northern Lights Conference Volleyball Championships, the Wasilla volleyball squad knocked off three teams with a higher seed en route to its first state tournament berth since 2004.
To move forward in the ASAA 4A state volleyball tournament, the Warriors are going to have to do the same thing. Wasilla will face South Anchorage, the two-time defending state champions, in the first round of the tournament that starts Thursday at West Anchorage High School. The first serve is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
Wasilla is one of three Valley teams to advance to the state tourney. The Palmer Moose, who were crowned NLC champs after a thrilling five-game win over Colony on Saturday, will face Eagle River in the final match of the first round on Thursday. NLC runner-up Colony meets Mid-Alaska champion West Valley in the first match of the day at 2 p.m.

Knights cruise to tourney
win in Ketchikan
KETCHIKAN — The Colony Knights stormed to the team title in the Bill Weiss Invitational wrestling tournament at Ketchikan High School on Saturday.
The Knights collected 304.5 total points, more than double the total of the host Kings, the runner-up of the tourney.
Colony, the lone Valley school to participate in the event, placed 10 wrestlers in the championship round. Eight Colony athletes won titles.

Ravens fall to 0-2
EAGLE RIVER — The Mat-Su Ravens fell to 0-2 with a 4-0 loss to Chugiak-Eagle River on Nov. 1.
Chugiak-Eagle River jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period, and added a pair of third period goals in the win.
Mat-Su goaltender Dominique Schuetter posted 28 saves for the Ravens.

Avs host rare
early week series
WASILLA — The Alaska Avalanche are hosting a rare early week series at the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla.
The Avs face the Bismarck Bobcats tonight in the second of a two-game set. The first puck is slated to drop at 7 p.m.
