Warriors pin win at Bob Bailey tourney

CHUGIAK — Wins by Jake Johnson and Ryan Pomrenke highlighted a championship run for the Wasilla Warriors at the Bob Bailey wrestling tournament at Chugiak on Saturday.

Wasilla scored 176 points to beat second-place Service by 32 points at the 23-team tournament.

Johnson pinned Cordova’s McKyer Trumblee in the second round to claim the title at 215 pounds. Pomrenke finished the afternoon in style for the Warriors, just holding off Bartlett’s Drew Yeager, 6-5 at 285 pounds.

Palmer finished ninth, one spot ahead of Houston.

Luke Huen, who lost in the finals at 130 pounds, led the Moose.

The Hawks got third-place finishes from Garrett Elder (160) and Arron Reese (171).
