WASILLA — Southcentral Conference teams are proving this year no lead is safe.

A night after climbing out of a seven-run hole to tie Colony, Palmer watched its 13-run advantage disappear during a 26-23 loss to the Wasilla Warriors at Wasilla Senior Field on Tuesday.

Palmer batted around and pushed 13 runs across the plate to take the lopsided lead in the top of the first, but the Warriors were able to answer and outlast the Moose in the run-scoring marathon.

“I knew they weren’t throwing their No. 1 (pitcher) and they knew the same from us. I knew if we were patient, we could climb right back into it,” Wasilla head coach Jason Terryberry said.

Wasilla scored eight runs in the bottom of the first to narrow the gap, and after Palmer pushed its advantage to 16-8 in the second, the Warriors cut the Moose advantage to just a run in the fourth.

Trailing 18-15, Wasilla took its first lead of the game with a 10-run fifth.

“Everyone did well at the plate,” Terryberry said. “They were either patient and drew a walk, or found the pitch they liked, made good contact and put it somewhere.”

Senior Brody Coleman sparked the Warrior rally, finishing 4 for 5 at the plate, with five runs scored and five RBI. Three of Coleman’s hits were for extra bases, two triples and a single. Sophomore Ben Fielder also collected four hits, including two doubles. He added three runs and 4 RBI. Freshman Josh Sherrick had two singles and a double.

Senior Tim Rockey and junior David Media each knocked three-run homers over the Wasilla Senior Field fence to help power the Moose offense. Rockey was 3 for 5 with four runs and five RBI. Media finished with four hits and two runs scored.

Sophomore Luke Huen was 2 for 3 with two RBI and three walks.

Terryberry said the comeback is big in terms of his team’s confidence.

“Especially the way the season’s been going,” Terryberry said. “We’d only won one game before that. They really needed that as a boost.”
