In late August, previously undefeated Wasilla watched a 14-point lead disappear during a 20-14 loss to Valley rival Colony.
But since, the Warriors have been on another tear.
In a match that featured two of the top teams in the state, Wasilla crushed Dimond 50-19 Sept. 10 at Dimond High School in Anchorage.
Wasilla senior quarterback Savannah Kroon accounted for seven total touchdowns in the victory. Kroon had five touchdown passes and ran for two more. She helped Wasilla improve to 10-1 overall and win its fifth straight, following its loss to the Knights. During that stretch, Wasilla also beat defending state champion North Pole 48-27.
Wasilla is the only team in the state with one loss, as of Sept. 13. North Pole (11-2), Dimond (9-2) and South Anchorage (8-2) have two losses each.
The Warriors also beat West Anchorage 40-12 the night before the Dimond win.
Palmer, which has its own team for the first time this year, earned its first win in program history with a 6-0 victory over Redington on Sept. 11. Quarterback Kilee Goss connected with Jan Jorgenson, and Jorgenson went 84 yards for the score to give the Moose the win.
