ANCHORAGE — The Wasilla Warriors opened the 2008 season with a 10-0 win over Lumen Christi at Anchorage Football Stadium on Tuesday.
Senior Harvey Finch led the Warriors with four goals. Jimmy Sliwa, Paul Sliwa, Aaron Sharrow, Adam Friese, Matthew Friese and Chad Cowan also scored for WHS.
Freshman Eli Tingstad earned the shutout in the WHS goal.
The Warriors played in the match despite less than desirable conditions in Anchorage.
“It was freezing, rainy, snowing, miserable,” Wasilla head coach Blake Livingston said.
But poor conditions are something the Warriors — as well as the other local soccer squads — have struggled with during the early season.
Wasilla was slated to host Lathrop and West Valley this weekend, but recent snowfalls made Veterans Memorial Field at WHS unplayable.
“For us it was nice to be able to get the game in,” Livingston said.
Wasilla is scheduled to be in action against on Thursday against Colony.
