The Wasilla Warriors girls basketball squad scored a pair of lopsided wins over the Kodiak Bears at WHS over the weekend.
Wasilla opened the series with a 56-4 win over the Bears. Layla Hays led Wasilla with 18 points. Claire Bredburg added 11, and Savannah Kroon chipped in eight.
The Warriors defense allowed only one field goal and two free throws, and held the Bears scoreless in the first half.
Wasilla followed with a 60-7 win.
In Anchorage, the Colony boys finished 1-2 in the Alaska Airlines Classic.
Columbia, a team from Georgia, used a 19-7 second-quarter run to get past the Knights 51-47 during the final day of the tournament at West Anchorage High. Leyton Lockard led the Knights with 18. Mylz Mongeau added 14.
The Knights beat Service in the consolation semifinals on Friday. Colony closed the game on a 17-5 run, and allowed only 11 points in the second half. Mongeau scored a team-high 18. Lockard chipped in 17.
Heritage, a team from California, beat Colony 59-36 in the first round. Mongeau led Colony with 10.
The stacked field also included Hoover (Alabama), a nationally-ranked program, and East Anchorage, Alaska’s two-time defending 4A state champion.
In 3A action, the Redington and Houston boys and girls finished winless in games against conference rivals Mt. Edgecumbe and Sitka over the weekend in the Valley.
The Mt. Edgecumbe boys beat Redington 65-33 and Houston 91-46. The Sitka boys beat Houston 94-62 and Redington 63-23.
The Mt. Edgecumbe girls defeated Redington 66-15 and Houston 61-16. Sitka got past the Houston girls 60-25 and Redington 65-25.
