Warriors second, Moose third in Service Tri

ANCHORAGE — The Wasilla and Palmer swimming and diving squads finished second and third respectively in both the boys’ and girls’ classes during a tri-meet at Service High School on Friday.

The host Cougars swept the meet.

Jeff Frey won a pair of events to lead the Wasilla boys to their second-place finish. With Frey’s wins in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, Wasilla finished with 104 total points, 15 shy of first-place Service.

Charles Frey (200 freestyle) and David Kennedy (1-meter diving) also won events for WHS. The Warrior relay teams finished first in 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Palmer finished third in the boys’ class with 63 total points.

Blake Branham led the Moose with a pair of third-place finishes. Branham was third in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Rachel Kennedy prevented the Cougars from running the table on the girls’ side. Kennedy, the only non-Service athlete to win an event, finished first in the 1-meter dive.

Caity Stigen finished second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 50 freestyle for WHS. Christina Shattuck was second in the 100 breastroke, while Maddie Merriam (100 breaststroke) and Brittany Shattuck (200 individual medley and 500 freestyle) each added third-place finishes. Palmer finished third with 52 points.

Stacy Swindells was third in the 100 freestyle and Signe Johnson finished third in the 100 backstroke to lead the Moose.
