Early in the season, the Wasilla Warriors dropped a tough 3-2 loss to Colony. But now the Valley rivals are all tied up in both the season series and Division I Railbelt Conference standings.
Wasilla scored a 6-3 win over the Knights Tuesday night at the Brett Memorial Arena in Wasilla.
The Warriors used four third-period goals to grab the win, including three unanswered during the final 7 minutes, 35 seconds of play. Wasilla’s Robert Mikulecky scored two of those goals, finding the back of the net twice during a span of just less than two minutes. Karson McGrew, Simon Giani, Elijah Barcelona and Branson Hagel also scored for Wasilla. McGrew added three assists for the Warriors.
Jaxon Allen tallied a pair of goals for Colony. Jake Seward-Jenski also scored for the Knights. Toryn Coffey led Colony with two assists.
Wasilla outshot Colony 32-18. Carson Branholm made 15 saves in the Wasilla win. Colony’s Traeton Adams stopped 26 shots.
Wasilla and Colony are both 2-2-0 in the Railbelt.
Both teams will host West Valley and Lathrop this weekend in Railbelt Conference action.
Wasilla hosts West Valley Friday at 7 p.m. and Lathrop Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Brett, and Colony hosts Lathrop Friday at 7 p.m. and West Valley Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Menard Arena.
West Valley is 3-0 and Lathrop is 0-3 in the conference. The top two of the four Railbelt teams earn automatic bids to the Division I state tournament in February.
