The Wasilla Warriors split a pair of matches against Kenai Peninsula foes at Wasilla High School this weekend. The Warriors defeated Soldota 3-2 (15-5, 15-5, 1-15, 15-12) and dropped a match to Kenai 3-1 (8-15, 15-7, 15-13, 15-9).
The Warriors celebrated senior night on Friday and seniors Lindsey Shogren and Caitlin Fisher combined for 25 kills and 17 digs in the match. Shogren also had eight aces in the match.
Senior setter Brandee Walker registered 14 assists in the win. Senior middle blocker Erika Lund recorded nine kills and eight blocks.
"All four seniors turned in excellent performances," Wasilla head coach Gary Steinfort said. "With Lindsey Shogren leading the way we got off to a very strong start in the first two games and struggled in the final three games, but we were able to win the match."
Wasilla jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match and it looked as if the Warriors would cruise to the victory. The Stars had other plans, beating the Warriors soundly in the third game.
The Warriors rebounded to claim the fifth and deciding game of the match.
Shogren led the squad with 15 kills in the loss to Kenai.
Fisher notched five kills, four digs and four aces and Lund added a team-high eight blocks.
