The Wasilla Warriors and Colony Knights have met in each of the last two 4A girls state title games, with each Valley rival earning a championship.

On Friday night, the Warriors and Knights hit the court for the first of what could be several meetings during the 2025-26 season. And the Warriors were able to take the first round.

Wasilla used a big second quarter and a key run late in the third to earn a 47-38 win over the Knights at Colony High.

Wasilla scored only eight points in the third quarter, but closed the frame on a 7-0 run. Meilee Merchant hit her lone three-pointer of the game, and Savannah Kroon and Katie Jackson added baskets to push Wasilla’s advantage to 35-24 after three quarters.

The Warriors also enjoyed a 19-7 second-quarter run. Colony had led 8-7 early.

Kroon scored eight points in the second, and led Wasilla with 19 in the win. Jackson and Merchant added seven each.

Taylor Passard led Colony with a dozen. Morgan Ainsworth added 11.

The Colony boys ran past Wasilla 72-42.

Colony’s Mylz Mongeau led all scorers with 24. Jackson Ainsworth chipped in 10. Aidan Pharr led Wasilla with 14. Tillerman Engebretsen had eight.
