SOLDOTNA — Wasilla captain Chancie Hanson used a late score on a penalty shot to force overtime and the Warriors and Soldotna Stars skated to a 3-3 tie at the Soldotna Sports Center Thursday night.
After Wasilla pulled goalie Rhys Jones with 1:10 left in regulation, the Warriors were awarded a penalty shot with just 4.5 seconds left. Hanson converted the opportunity to tie the score at three.
The tie left Wasilla even in North Star Conference play with a 3-3-1 mark. It’s the second time the Warriors and Stars played in overtime. Soldotna edged the Warriors in extra play earlier this year.
Brandon Trush and Michael Johnston also scored for Wasilla.
Dagen Waters led the Stars with two goals. Zack Waters gave the Stars a 3-2 lead with a breakaway score.
