HOMER — With victories in the semifinals, the Wasilla Warriors and Soldotna Stars have advanced to the championship game of the North Star Conference Tournament.
Wasilla moved into the prep hockey final with a 5-0 win over Valley-rival Colony, Friday evening at the Homer Ice Arena. Sophomore Matthew Friese led the Warriors with two scores.
In the other semi, Soldotna scored twice in the first three minutes of regulation, and skated to an 8-1 win over the Palmer Moose. Palmer, in search of its first state berth since 1996, was eliminated from the tourney. Zack Richards scored the lone goal for the Moose, late in the third period.
Wasilla and Soldotna now meet Saturday at noon at the Homer Ice Arena. Wasilla is looking for its third conference title in the last four years. WHS and SHS split two games during the regular season.
