Warriors stay undefeated in conference play

SOLDOTNA — The Wasilla Warriors have taken control of the North Star Conference standings.

Wasilla improved to 6-0-0 in conference play with a 4-3 win over Soldotna at the Soldotna Sports Center Thursday.

Wasilla built a big lead, scoring three goals in less than a minute during the first period. Forward Tanner Schachle found the net first, with help from Colton Fletcher and Blake Carricaburu, at the 11:26 mark of the first period. Fletcher, with an assist from Schachle, scored just 20 seconds later to push Wasilla’s lead to 2-0.

Wasilla recorded another quick goal, with a Jack Reeves score coming at the 12:05 mark.

Reeves added the eventual game-winner late in the second period.

Reeves led the Warriors with two goals. Schachle bagged a goal and two assists.

Wasilla outshot Soldotna 14-3 in the first period and 32-23 in the game.

Colony 3, Kenai 3

Powered by a trio of third-period goals, the Kenai Kardinals forced a 3-3 tie against visiting Colony at the Soldotna Sports Center Thursday.

The Knights held a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the final period of regulation, but Austin Hibbert sparked the Kards with his goal less than two minutes into the third. Just more than three minutes later, TJ Wagoner scored the first of his two goals to cut Colony’s lead to 1.

Wagoner added the game-tying goal with 4:16 remaining in regulation. The teams skated scoreless through overtime. Colony outshot the Kards 4-2 during the extra period.

Colton Symbol and Jacob Link each scored first-period goals to give the Knights a 2-0 lead less than six minutes into action. Anthony Kolendo added an unassisted tally early in the second period for the Knights.

Colony outshot Kenai 25-20 in the tie. The Knights beat Kenai 11-0 earlier this season.

Homer 3, Palmer 1

The Homer Mariners scored a 3-1 North Star Conference win over the Palmer Moose in Homer on Thursday.

Jacob Inukai scored the lone goal for Palmer, a first-period tally. Homer outshot Palmer 25-12 in the victory.

Valley hockey teams will continue its three-day tour of the Peninsula today. Kenai hosts Wasilla at 2:15 p.m., and Soldotna meets Palmer at 4:30 p.m. Colony is at Homer.

Palmer will face Kenai Saturday at 2:15, while Soldotna faces off against Colony Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Wasilla will make the trip to Homer Saturday.

Moose hold on

to beat Hawks

PALMER — Luke Wright scored a key third-period goal to help the Palmer Moose hold on to grab a 5-4 nonconference victory over the Houston Hawks Tuesday at the MTA Events Center in Palmer.

Wright led the Moose with a pair of goals in the win. Jacob Inukai, Darren Fish and Hayden Moistner also scored for Palmer. Christopher Djoka led Palmer with three assists.

Lane Styers led Houston with two goals. Patrick Thistle and Jaden Sears also scored for the Hawks.
