The Wasilla Warriors used a big third quarter to earn a boys basketball win over a Valley rival.
The Warriors scored 28 points in the third, and grabbed a 66-45 win over Palmer Thursday night at Wasilla High.
Deegan VanDussen scored 12 of his game-high 16 points in the third. Noah Kroon had seven of his 11 in the third, and Barak Wagle scored six of his 10 during the quarter.
Wasilla and Palmer were tied at 24 at the break. The Warriors outscored the Moose 42-21 in the second half.
Tristan Horton hit four threes and added a dozen points, and Aiden Pharr chipped in 10.
Nolan Garner led Palmer with 15, and Lukas Owen added 13.
The Wasilla girls stormed past Palmer 87-15. Wasilla’s Savannah Kroon led all scorers with 19 points. Layla Hays and Mylee Anderson finished with 15 each. Meilee Merchant and Kinley Lynch hit four three-pointers each. Merchant had 14 points and Lynch had a dozen.
Kaelyn Downey led Palmer with six.
The Palmer girls swept a pair of conference games at Soldotna. The Moose beat the Stars 43-28 on Saturday. Pressly Wright led Palmer with 13 points. Wilson added nine points. Palmer beat SoHi 47-42 the night before. Downey scored 10 for the Moose. Wilson and Wright added nine each.
The Palmer boys split with the Stars. SoHi edged Palmer 54-50 on Friday. Nolan Garner scored 17 for Palmer and Lukas Owen had 15.
The Moose rebounded with a 66-35 victory the following day. Garner finished with 18. Logan Rolston chipped in 12.
Houston and Redington also spent the weekend on the Kenai Peninsula.
Houston split a pair of games against Homer. Noah Whitted scored 21 points to lead the Houstn boys to a 70-31 win over the Mariners. The Homer girls beat Houston 52-31.
The Houston boys also beat Nikiski 69-63. Whitted scored 14. Billy Rusher and Blake Baskett finished with a dozen each.
Redington split with Nikiski. The Huskies boys won 54-19. Kaedin Saxton led Redington with 18 points. The Nikiski girls beat Redington 60-12.
Homer swept Redington in a pair of games. The Homer boys won 57-32. Natan Fields and Aiden Dobbs had eight each for Redington. Homer beat the Redington girls 55-19.
