Warriors sweep rival Knights

The Wasilla Warriors and Colony Knights met for a pair of big early-season Northern Lights Conference games, and the Warriors earned the home sweep.

Deegan VanDussen scored 10 of his 19 points in the third quarter, and led the Wasilla boys to a 63-56 win over the Knights on Saturday. Aiden Pharr hit a pair of three-pointers and scored all 10 of his points in the third. Noah Kroon added a dozen in the victory,

Tristan Horton helped cement the Wasilla win with a pair of threes in the fourth.

Leyton Lockard led Colony with 15. Myles Mongeau added 14. Malik Balmes chipped in nine.

The Wasilla girls earned a 55-44 win over the Knights in a rematch of the 2024 4A girls state title game.

Wasilla held a 20-10 lead at halftime. But the rivals erupted for 50 total points in the third. The Warriors took a 47-33 advantage into the final quarter.

Wasilla’s Mylee Anderson scored a game-high 21 in the win, including 13 in the second half. Layla Hays scored 14 of her 16 in the second half.

Colony’s Hallie Clark, the reigning 4A girls player of the year, also did the bulk of the damage in the second half. Clark scored 5 of her team-high 17 in the final two quarters. Tonya Karpow added 13 for the Knights.
