Warriors sweep team titles at Valdez Invite

VALDEZ — The Wasilla Warriors swept the team titles during the Valdez Invitational swimming meet in Valdez on Saturday.

Kevin Snavley, Jeff Frey and Christian Long each won a pair of events to lead the Wasilla boys to a lopsided win in the boys’ class.

Snavley finished first in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Frey finished first in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Long was first in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Dylan Spargo was first in the 100 breaststroke, and the Warriors also placed first in both the 200 and 400 relays.

Wasilla finished with 122 points in the boys’ standings.

Teresa Kennedy, Karina Barria and Christina Shattuck each won events for the Wasilla girls.

Kennedy was first in the 200 freestyle, Barria won the 100 butterfly and Shattuck finished first in the 500 freestyle.

The Warriors, who finshed with 87 points, also won the 400 freestyle.

Colony finished second in the boys’ standings with 79 total points. The Knights won the 200 medley relay.

Chase Talbot finished second in the 200 individual medley for Colony, and Nicholas Brunger was second in the 50 freestyle.

The Colony girls. led by Kayla Anderson’s win in the 200 individual medley finished fourth in the team standings.

Palmer posted third-place finishes in both the boys and girls team standings.

Spencer Bloom led the PHS boys with a win in the 200 freestyle. He was also second in the 100.

Stacy Swindells won teh 100 freestyle for the Moose girls. Irene Fry was second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 100.

The three Mat-Su programs will compete in the Valley Invitational this weekend at the Palmer Pool.
