ANCHORAGE — The Wasilla Warriors moved only one wrestler into the finals, but that’s all they needed to win the team title of the Glen Vandergaw Invitational at Dimond High School on Saturday.
Tyler Adams pinned Service’s Jacob Lunsford in the 130-pound final to score the individual title. Adams scored a pair of first-round pins en route to the title match.
The Warriors placed eight grapplers in third-place matches. Nate McKimson (119) and Jentry Diederich (140) each placed third for WHS, while Shannon Carpenter (103), Ryker Steiner (112), Jed Diederich (125), Christian Lowe (135), Yuryi Makitrin (171) and Ryan Pomrenke (285) all finished fourth.
Luke Faulkner and Nate Wolfe each won their respective weight classes to lead Colony to a third-place finish in the team standings. Faulkner edged Eagle River’s Domminic Taus at 135 and Wolfe beat East’s Josh Wiggins 8-6 at 160.
Wade Booth (103), Kyle Boss (152) and Quace Wright (215) reached the finals and finished second. Skye Rench (171) and Renn Wright (285) were third for CHS.
Freshman Luke Wagner led the seventh-place Houston Hawks with a title at 215. Wagner upset top-seeded Derek Zorea of Service in the semifinals and pinned second-seeded Garrett Morrison of Chugiak during the final round.
Houston’s Aaron Reese reached the finals and finished second at 171.
