Warriors win big at Dimond tourney

WASILLA — The Wasilla Warriors cruised to the team title during the Glenn Vandergaw Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

Wasilla crowned seven individual champions and amassed 260.5 points in the team standings, more than double the total of runner-up East. At least one Warrior finished in the top 4 of 12 of the 15 weight classes.

Defending state champion Isaiah Elvsaas was among the seven Warriors to win their bracket. Elvsaas needed just 1 minute, 13 seconds to pin South’s Jedidiah Patzke in the 138-pound final. Jack Fuller (98 pounds), Wesley Fraker (113), Alexander Logsdon (120), Isaac Rodman (126), Hunter Hayes (132) and Andrue Shepersky also won their respective weight class. Christion Alexander (132), Gregory Dean (145) and Rowdy Bailey (160) finished second; Justice Beaudoin-Martinez (113), Colton Lindquist (145) and Jeffrey Palmer (195) were third; and Chandler Jasper (98), Niles Williams (126), Ethan Kraus (145) and Amos Bartlett (220) placed fourth.

Palmer placed third in the team standings with 105 total points, less than two points shy of second-place East. Christian Kurka led the Moose, winning the 195-pound class. Levi Farris was second at 170. Garrett Blydenburgh (98), Peyton Portney (120), Jason Watkins (170) and Lucas Santana (285) each placed third; and Jeff Glynn (170) was fourth.

Robert Ritter led Houston with a second-place finish at 195. Damien Jessup (138) was third for the Hawks, and both Lane Guim (152) and Justin Gericke (182) placed fourth.

James Paris led Redington with a second-place finish at 98, and Eli Benson was fourth at 132.
