PALMER — The Wasilla Warriors won the Palmer Jamboree volleyball tournament Saturday at Palmer High School.

Wasilla used a 2-0 sweep of rival Colony in the best-of-3 championship match to finish as the top squad in the seven-team preseason tournament, hosted each year by Palmer High School.

The host Moose finished third in the field, beating Grace Christian 2-1 in the best-of-3 match.

The two-day event featured Colony, Wasilla, Houston, Grace Christian, Delta, Valdez and the host Moose. Colony, Wasilla, Palmer and Valdez finished as the top four teams during round-robin play on the first day. Teams were separated into a pair of pools Saturday, based on Friday’s results, and Wasilla and Colony emerged as the top teams from the pools.

Palmer begins its regular season Thursday, hosting West Valley at 6:30 p.m. at Palmer High.

Colony, Palmer and Wasilla are slated to compete in the Chugiak Invitational Friday and Saturday at Chugiak High School.
