The Wasilla Warriors skated into the final period with a 3-1 lead, and the West Valley Wolfpack made things interesting.
West Valley used a pair of goals within a six-minute span of the final frame, but the Warriors prevailed.
Dylan Mead notched the game-winner with 4:31 left to help the Warriors score a 4-3 win over the Wolfpack in the Railbelt Conference title game Friday night in Fairbanks. With the win, the Warriors earned a spot in the ASAA Division I state tournament, which starts Feb. 12 at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.
Mead scored a pair of goals in the win. He also found the back of the net with 2:54 left in the second period to give Wasilla the 3-1 advantage. Elijah Barcelona and Robert Mikulecky also scored.
Wasilla opened its tourney with a 6-1 win over rival Colony. Chase Malstrom led the Warriors with a pair of goals. Mead, Barcelona, Deklan Hawk and Gavin Blaylock also scored.
Gavin Shafer scored for Colony.
Colony’s fight for the Railbelt’s second berth to the state tourney fell short with a 5-3 loss to West Valley on Saturday.
