WASILLA — The Wasilla Warriors sent only 11 wrestlers to Valdez, but it was enough to bring a team title back to Wasilla High.
Wasilla used five individual titles and 171.5 points in the team standings to finish as the top squad in the Throwdown in Snow Town prep wrestling tournament Saturday in Valdez.
“The kids wrestled super tough,” Wasilla head coach Shawn Hayes said by phone earlier this week. “Every kid we brought was in the semifinals. That was pretty cool.”
Wesley Fraker (120 pounds), Hunter Hayes (132), Sterling Uhlenhake (138), Ethan Kraus (145) and Colton Lindquist (152) each won their weight class for Wasilla.
Wasilla, which finished second in the 4A state tournament last season, was one of three Valley programs in the top 5 of the team standings. Houston used 157.5 points to finish as the runner-up.
Heavyweight Dylan Jackson won his weight class for the second straight weekend. Justin Gericke also placed first at 195 pounds.
Redington placed fifth with 123.5 total points. James Paris placed first at 106 to lead the Huskies.
