WASILLA — The Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. Board of Directors recently announced that Marlene Munsell will be the new CEO.

According to a recent press release, Munsell joined the WASI team as Assistant Executive Director in January 2019 and quickly established herself as a capable leader for the non-profit senior center.

“We are so pleased to have Marlene step into this new role at WASI. For years we saw her talent, drive, and skill as Assistant Executive Director. Now we look forward to working with her to further improve the system of senior care in the Mat-Su,” WASI Board President John Weaver stated in the press release.

Munsell has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Wyoming and a Certificate of Non-Profit Management from the Foraker Group, according to the press release.

Munsell joined WASI after spending 28 years working at Walmart, earning a reputation for outstanding work ethic, effective leadership, and firm commitment to overall team and business success.

Munsell’s duties as CEO will continue major initiatives outlined in WASI’s 2021 Strategic Plan, including construction of new, affordable senior housing at the Wasilla Senior Campus and creation of a new Adult Day Service in the Houston and Big Lake area at the Mid-Valley Senior Center.

She will also manage the rapidly growing demand for existing senior services, including community meals at the Wasilla and Mid-Valley Senior Centers, and Meals on Wheels of the Mat-Su Valley.

According to the press release, WASI served more than 134,000 meals over the last year and the need continues to grow.

“I am so glad to have this opportunity to serve. I am blessed that I can do what I love and love what I do. At WASI we believe in our motto: ‘Rooted in Dignity. Serving with Respect.’ Each day gives me a reason to do my best,” Munsell stated in the press release.
