Wasilla advances to flag football state tournament

The Wasilla Warriors flag football team is in the state tournament,

Wasilla finished third during the Railbelt Conference Championships Saturday at Colony High School and earned an automatic bid to the ASAA state championships, which starts Thursday at Wasilla High School.

Wasilla is a first-year varsity program.

Wasilla, the No. 3 seed from the Railbelt meets Cook Inlet Conference champion South Anchorage Thursday at 7:30 p.m. In other first-round game, Lathrop plays Service at 3 p.m. North Pole meets Chugiak at 4:30 p.m. and West Anchorage faces Dimond at 6 p.m.

The semifinals are Friday at 6 and 7:30 p.m., and the championship game is Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

North Pole is the top seed from the Railbelt, following a 12-6 win over Lathrop in the conference title game. Lathrop beat Wasilla in the third-place game.

South, West, Dimond, Service and Chugiak are the five teams from the CIC.
