Wasilla basketball sweeps Palmer

PALMER —Alex Baham found a way to set the tone in the opponent’s gym Friday night. The Wasilla senior drained three-pointers on his team’s first three possessions to spark the Warriors and help Wasilla earn the 65-55 win over the Palmer Moose at Palmer High School.

Baham scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter to help Wasilla improve to 4-1 in Northern Lights Conference play. The Moose fell to 1-4 with the loss.

Koby Burns added six points during Wasilla’s 19-point first, and collected 13 in the game. Ryan Milleron added 10 in the win.

James Blake led the Moose with a dozen points. Chase Ferris and Clayton Southwick scored 11 each, while Tye Ramoth and Jarred Yanez added 10 each.

In girls’ action, Wasilla beat Palmer 59-29. The Warriors shot 55 percent from the field, and held Palmer to only 28 percent shooting. Azlynn Brandenburg led Wasilla with 11 points, and Machia Toews added eight.

Kiana Till led Palmer with nine points.

Wasilla improved to 5-0 in NLC play, while Palmer dropped to 1-7.

Knights split with Lathrop

FAIRBANKS — Senior Faith Farris scored a game-high 27 points to lead Colony to a 45-44 nonconference win over Lathrop in Fairbanks Friday.

Ashley Turcotte added 10 for the Knights.

In boys’ action, Lathrop scored a 54-47 win over Colony.

Robert Sonnenberg led Colony with 14 points. Bailey West finished with 11 and Anton Chamblee added 10.

Thursday, Colony earned a 59-38 boys basketball win over North Pole.

Ethan Selmer finished with a game-high 12 points. Sonnenberg had 11, and Tucker Looney chipped in 10.
