HONOLULU, Hawaii — The Wasilla High boys basketball team pounded Hilo, Hawaii, Monday 72-48 to advance to the consolation finals at the Merv Lopes Holiday Classic. Wasilla coach Ryan Engebresten said team play was the key to WHS recording such a decisive victory.
“We executed really well as a team today,” Engebresten said. “We were very unselfish with the ball and were able to take advantage of the mathups that we were presented with.”
The Warriors play today at 4 p.m. against the winner of the Castle vs. Kalaheo game that took place late last night.
Over the weekend, the Warriors split two games, losing the tournament opener 47-41 to Punahou Saturday morning. That game was originally scheduled to have been played Friday night, but a power outage on the whole island forced the game to be rescheduled. Later Saturday evening the Warriors bounced back to beat Kaneohe 47-21.
