WASILLA — The Wasilla Warriors boys’ basketball squad is preparing for a tough upcoming week with games against Palmer, East Anchorage and West Anchorage. But before Wasilla embarks on the stretch, the Warriors picked up a big nonconference win along the way.
The Warriors held Bartlett to single-digit scoring in both the first and fourth quarter, and earned a 50-42 win over the Golden Bears Saturday night at Wasilla High School.
Wasilla head coach Ryan Engebretsen called it a, “great team win,” and compared the victory to its big win over rival Colony earlier this month.
“Every kid stepped up and played huge minutes,” Engebretsen said via text. “Extremely proud of my entire group.”
Daniel Headding scored 11 of his game-high 15 points in the second half. Kody Campbell hit each of Wasilla’s three treys and scored 11 points. Luke Devine also added 11.
Freshman Bella Hays notched a double-double, but the Wasilla girls suffered a 47-38 loss to Bartlett. Hays finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds, both game highs. Cheyenne Green added 10 for the Warriors.
