KENAI — The Wasilla boys swimming team dominated Saturday’s Kenai Invitational, capturing eight first-place finishes and outdistancing the pack by more than 50 points.
Wasilla finished the meet with 106 team points, well ahead of second-place Kenai Central (52) and Colony (37). The Warriors were paced by wins in the 200-yard medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. Jeff Frey touched the wall first in two individual events, the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle, showing his versatility to swim short and longer distances.
For Colony, Alexander Deedy continued to show why he’s among the state’s top divers, winning on Saturday with 168.7 points. Wasilla’s Tyler Fishback wasn’t to far behind at 155.8.
While the Warrior boys were swimming away with their competition, the Wasilla girls pushed Kenai Central in a second place team effort, finishing with 77 points to Central’s 84.
The Warrior girls were paced by four first-place finishes, including the 200 medley relay and a pair of individual wins from Karina Barria. Barria touched the wall first in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle.
The Colony girls finished third with 56 team points, and Kayla Anderson had enough in her tank to blast the field in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:17.39.
